Invincible? Is that just an animated version of The Boys?

Invincible? Is that just an animated version of The Boys?

Are you looking for a hard hitting super hero story with some nitty gritty anti-heroes ready to take the law into their own hands?

Do you get a little squeamish at the sight of blood and gore, but still want the hard hitting storytelling that comes with that no holding back attitude.

Have we got the series for you!

Invincible season 1 is streaming on Amazon Prime Video now.

What’s It About?

One of the latest entries into the darker superhero genre that is increasingly popular right now, this animated Amazon Original series follows 17 year old Mark Grayson (Voiced by Steven Yeun, a favourite of mine from the Walking Dead series and recently starring in the award winning Minari), as he comes to grips with his powers.

You see, Mark is no ordinary kid, he is the son of the famous hero Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons who has appeared in a multiverse of Spider-Men movies as well as The Legend Of Korra).

Mark is a late bloomer to the super hero game and finds himself developing powers just as things are going… well, let’s just say, some of the other supers are losing their heads…

Mark turns to his dad to provide vital training, but they don’t always see eye to eye and as the series unfolds, some family secrets get exposed.

Any Good?

Joining the cast are several big names such as Zachary Quinto, Sandra Oh, Zazie Beets, Gillian Jacobs and even Mark Hamill.

They deliver quality voice acting alongside beautiful animation that could be lifted straight from a modern comic book and the story feels fresh, even though this type of series is quickly becoming its own trope.

If you love hero’s and subverting the traditional good versus evil narrative for a slightly more complex story, you will love this.

Out of 5 Stars?

It’s a solid 4.

The story is good and I need to see a season 2 to get some serious answers.

No firm details yet on when that will air but they did announce that Amazon have renewed them for a season 2 and 3! So no need to worry that we will never get a conclusion like with Jupiter’s Legacy… Too soon?

If you enjoyed this, you should check out our recap of Comic-Con @ Home, plenty of other exciting announcements and fun stuff to watch coming up.
