Watch Loki on Disney+ now

Loki is a trip. The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) playing on Disney+.

Loki follows the journey of the title character, Loki played by Tom Hiddleston after he escapes from the events of the original Avengers film from 2012.

But things quickly turn south when Loki is captured by the menacing TVA, or Time Variance Authority. This is the organisation that monitors the so-called sacred timeline and intervene when variants appear.

Tom Hiddleston is joined by Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers, Starsky and Hutch, and Zoolander) and Sophia Di Martino (Yesterday and Friday Night Dinner) on this wild adventure as we meet the agency which keeps the multiverse in check.

Michael Waldron (Rick and Morty) serves as an executive producer and writer/creator for the series alongside his work writing the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the writing here is spectacular.

The Story

In typical Marvel fashion, this story is both appealing on its own as a kind of hybrid between Rick and Morty and Doctor Who with its approaches to multidimensional realities and travelling through time on wild adventures, but also slots perfectly into the wider universe of the MCU.

Considering the fact that Loki is the only character that we are familiar with in this series upon starting it, the show does a tremendous job of establishing a foundation for each side character and providing context to the events so far.

Throughout, we learn more about what motivates Loki as he starts to see how small he is in the big bad MCU and expect plenty of big explosive reveals throughout.

The Acting

Tom Hiddleston is joined by a spectacular cast of big names and some up and coming stars as well who are sure to make an impact in the future of the MCU.

It is hard to say much in this department without sharing spoilers because of the depth of character arcs provided to each of these characters but you will have to take my word for it, the cosmic out of these world adventures feel much closer to home because of the people on screen and their performance,

The Takeaway

Marvel has stepped into the world of serial television with the same confidence and extravagance as they approach their films.

They haven’t spared on expenses to bring the same incredible effects and the story is perfect for a newcomer to the hero genre or the hardcore fans with plenty of excitement and easter eggs for the dedicated fans and a thrilling adventure for first-timers.

On the heels of WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it looks as though Marvel TV will definitely play an integral role in telling the MCU story and keeping the fans satisfied between theatrical releases.

All this while telling a story full of inspiration and learning to love all aspects of yourself, give it a watch, you are in for a treat!

Out of 5 Stars…

Loki gets a 4.5

There is so much to uncover and it rewards a rewatch to pick up on some of the nuances.

The conclusion is incredible and the possibilities it opens up are exciting, however, you may find yourself frustrated with more questions than answers.

Marvel has been working for over a decade now on some of their projects and we are only starting to see some of the seeds sown in the early films such as the Iron Man trilogy and its link to the Ten Rings organisation now with the upcoming Shang-Chi film, so don’t expect all the answers anytime soon.

But we are certain we are in for an Endgame level payoff over the next few phases, so stay tuned!
