For Disney Plus day on the 12th of November, Star Wars fans finally got their first look at the highly-anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series!

Fans are most excited about the return of Ewan McGregor reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, seeing the aged actor playing an aged character in a live-action Star Wars setting for the first time since the release of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

And more recently, Hayden Christensen was also confirmed to be returning to the Star Wars universe, reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, a first look at the actor as the most feared villain in the franchise since the same movie.

The Story

The director of the series, Deborah Chow, insists we will be seeing the Jedi Master in “a dark time,” for the Star Wars universe as the Jedi are hunted to near extinction.

The series is set ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, with Obi-Wan Kenobi tasked with overwatching the growth of Luke Skywalker in preparation for the events of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

Unfortunately, Disney gave little away with the short special look clip, featuring interviews with director Deborah Chow and the lead actor Ewan McGregor. However, the short feature included interesting concept art for the series with perhaps the most notable piece featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader engaged in a lightsaber battle, a scene that would surely excite fans over anything else.

What we still don’t know…

Sadly there is yet to be a proper trailer or any in-show footage of the series as of yet.

Fans will have to do with the short special look in the meantime, but what we do know so far is that it will release sometime next year in 2022.

Star Wars has a stacked lineup on the Disney Plus streaming platform, with the return of the critically acclaimed Mandalorian for its third season and the new Book of Boba Fett series set to be available on December 29th.

The Star Wars: Ahsoka series was also recently announced, which will feature in the Disney Plus lineup for next year.

In reference to the show’s contents, the biggest sneak peek fans got during the special look clip is that of Director Deborah Chow saying, “We couldn’t tell the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi without addressing Anakin or Vader,” illustrating that Hayden Christensen’s reprisal of the Sith Lord will likely be the show’s main villain.

The role of Darth Vader will likely be one of hunter, going after the outcast Jedi or tracking him down throughout the series, hopefully culminating in a clash between the former master and apprentice and giving the fans a lightsaber duel to rival that of their clash at the end of Revenge of the Sith.
